七条通りを東へ突き当たるとそこが「真言宗智山派 総本山智積院」山号を五百佛山（いおぶさん）寺号を根来寺（ねごろじ）という。
智山派大本山としては、海老蔵家の氏寺で知られる千葉県成田市の成田山新勝寺が有名。

総門
東福門院の旧殿の門を移築、桔梗の門は加藤清正公に由来するという。
加藤清正は藤堂高虎と並んで築城の名手として名高い。
天正19年/1591年年に豊臣秀吉が愛児・鶴松の菩提を弔うため、その手腕を買われて祥雲禅寺の建立を命じられる。
清正は見事に期待に応え、美しい寺院を完成させた。
後の元和元年/1615年、徳川家康は祥雲禅寺を妙心寺の塔頭・玉鳳院へ合寺。後を智積院に寄進し今に至る。
祥雲禅寺建立の功績を称える意味で、清正の家紋だった桔梗紋を智積院のシンボルとしても用いるようになったという
総門は普段は閉ざされているから、七条通りから来れば、突き当たりの総門前を南北に走る東大寺通りを南へ/右へ僅かに下ると、すぐ左手に入り口がある。
駐車場は真正面、智積院会館の裏手にあり、参拝者無料はありがたい。MAP
冠木門
境内にはこの冠木門から入る。境内は雄大な阿弥陀ヶ峰山麓（標高196.4ｍ）に広がる。

庭園の池が書院の縁の下に入り込んでる。 
部屋の左端から庭園の右側、石橋あたりを見た
繊細さと力強さがかみ合って、懐の深い、包容力抜群の庭園だと思う。
見方によって感じ方が変わる庭園を見ていると、人の人生や想いにもいろんな見方があるんだとついつい考えさせられた。
ここは素敵な場所だ。次は大書院まわりの皐月、そして大伽藍のお堂を一つ一つ観て回る。
